Can my computer problem be fixed remotely?

Some computer problems can be assessed remotely. Others need someone at the desk. Tell Mark what happens when you turn the computer on and whether it connects to the internet so you can agree on a suitable next step.

Explain what you can still use

Say whether you reach the desktop, can open the affected app and can get online. Describe the error or task that fails. If another device works, mention that too.

A computer that will not start, damaged equipment or a connection that cannot stay up may need an onsite assessment. We can discuss the symptoms before deciding how to approach the job.

Arrange access with the right person

Book the help directly with Mark and agree what will be checked. If remote access is needed, arrange it as part of that conversation. Keep passwords and verification codes out of the initial message.

For business or school equipment, involve the person who authorises support. Tell us about an existing IT provider or restrictions on the device so the work can fit the arrangements already in place.

Plan the visit when hands-on help is needed

Give your suburb and the equipment involved when asking about a visit. Mention access arrangements and when an interruption would affect other people. Onsite visits are by arrangement; the Swan View postal address is not a walk-in shop.

Confirm the scope and cost before work starts, including what happens if a remote assessment shows a visit is needed. Finish with an agreed check of the task that prompted the call, such as opening your files or using the affected app.
