Laptop repairs in Perth for Windows and Mac

A laptop fault can interrupt work, study and everything else you keep on it. We work on Windows laptops and Macs. Tell us what happens when you try to use yours, and what you need working first. We can discuss an assessment before you commit to parts or a replacement.

How Mark helps

  1. Tell Mark what's happening

Call or send a message in your own words. You don't need the technical name.

  2. Agree the plan and cost first

Mark asks a few questions, explains the options and quotes the job. Work starts once you approve the quote.

  3. Fixed, checked and explained

Mark does the agreed work and checks with you before doing anything extra. Before he finishes, he goes over the result with you, so you know what was fixed.

How a job works, step by step

Describe the fault in your own words

Does the laptop stay completely off, show lights without a picture, or reach the login screen before getting stuck? Perhaps it works on its charger but stops when unplugged. Those details help narrow the starting point without asking you to diagnose it yourself.

For a screen, keyboard or charging problem, include the make and model and describe any physical damage. A clear photo of the outside or an error message can help. Check that the photo does not show private documents or account information.

Power and charging

No lights at all, charge that only works when the plug is held a certain way, or a laptop that runs only while plugged in each point to a different power fault. Say what the charger light and battery indicator do when you try.

A worn charger, battery or port is often assessed on a visit. Board-level power faults and soldered parts need specialist physical work that sits outside a normal visit. Mark will say when that is the case rather than promise a drop-off workshop.

Screen faults

A blank panel, lines across the display, a dim backlight, cracked glass, or an external monitor that works while the laptop screen does not each need a different check. Include the make and model, and whether the damage followed a knock or hinge strain.

Panel and hinge replacements need the correct part and careful fitting. Some models need specialist physical work beyond a visit assessment. Suitability is discussed before any parts are ordered.

Heat and cooling

Fans that roar, sudden shutdowns under load, or a laptop that is too hot to rest on your lap can mean blocked vents, dust or failing cooling. Tell us when it happens and whether the underside feels unusually warm.

Checking vents and temperatures can fit a visit. Full heatsink rework or board-level thermal repairs are specialist physical work. If that is what the laptop needs, Mark will say so instead of opening it on site.

Startup problems

No power, a logo that never reaches Windows or macOS, a restart loop, or a machine that starts then freezes are different starting points. Describe the last thing you see or hear, and whether any recent update or spill happened first.

Storage and software causes can often be assessed without board work. Logic-board faults stay outside a visit and need an honest limit discussion first. Safe first checks for a machine that will not start live on the help page linked below.

Protect the files before choosing a repair

Let us know if this laptop holds the only copy of your photos, documents or business records. Getting a computer running and preserving its files are separate things to discuss. Explain what is backed up and what you would be unable to replace.

Do not reset or reinstall the computer just to see whether it helps when those files matter. If there has been a spill, visible battery swelling or a burning smell, stop using the laptop and mention that when you contact us. Leave opening it to an assessment.

Repair, upgrade or replace?

The answer depends on the fault, the laptop's age, parts availability and what you use it for. Tell us whether it is mainly for email and browsing or needs to run particular work software. Ask about the expected cost before agreeing to repair work.

A slow laptop may need a different approach from one with damaged hardware. We can discuss whether an upgrade is worth considering alongside repair or replacement. Some models offer fewer upgrade options, so please check with us before ordering parts.
