Email works on my phone but not my computer

You can read email on your phone, but your computer will not send, receive or sign in. Before changing the account, make a short record of what still works. That gives the person helping you somewhere to start.

Compare the same account on each device

Check that the phone and computer are using the same email address. Note whether the computer cannot open the app, asks you to sign in, fails to send or appears to be missing messages. Record when each device last received a new message.

Write down the email app name and the exact error. If you take a screenshot, crop out messages, contacts and other private information.

Keep the working setup available

Leave the working device set up while you arrange help. Before removing an account or reinstalling an app, discuss where existing messages are stored and whether there is a copy you can access. Mention any folders or older mail that appear only on the computer.

For a work or school account, involve the organisation's IT contact. They may need to approve access or handle the account itself. You do not need to send passwords or verification codes with an enquiry.

Describe what changed and what needs checking

Mention a new computer, replacement phone, password change or recent change of provider. Tell Mark the computer model, email app and which tasks have stopped working. We can discuss setup help and whether your account provider needs to be involved.

Agree on the handover checks: send and receive a harmless test message, find a familiar folder and confirm the devices you use are working. Keep private mail out of the test where possible.
